Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) states are not authorized to address the issue fatwas, including smoking haram fatwa issued by the Central Executive (PP) Muhammadiyah recently, said Minister of Religious Suryadharma Ali.
"The fatwa Kemenag outside authority," he said in between the celebration of Maulud Prophet Muhammad in Pondok Pesantren "Darussalam" Watucongol, Village of Mount Pring, Muntilan district, Magelang regency, Central Java, on Sunday (14 / 3).
He said the various Muslim community organizations in Indonesia such as Muhammadiyah and NU has a fatwa institution itself. More recently, the Legal Affairs Committee and Muhammadiyah Tajdid fatwa haram to smoke during informal discussion about the impact of tobacco control in Yogyakarta.
Minister admitted that so far he has not read the fatwa overall smoking is forbidden. "I have not read the entire fatwa, did not know what was forbidden," he said. He admitted knowing that smoking is makruh.
"All I know smoking is makruh. It might be able to change the law to be unlawful in certain circumstances, such as those with heart disease, other diseases if they smoke will aggravate health," he said.
He stated that out of a fatwa would for the good of the people. Level of faith people, he said, will affect their adherence to a fatwa.
